Q: What is your current role at Amazon and what do you do?
A: I’m currently a Sr. Manager for Customer Service Operations, leading our large US based, customer obsessed, virtual team. I spend my days ensuring our virtual CS team continues to provide world class customer service, partnering with different parts of the organization to support new innovative launches and most importantly, I get to work with a witty, fun and creative team!
Q: What has your experience as a military spouse been like?
A: Being a military spouse is not always easy, but I’m so proud of my husband and appreciative for the sacrifices he makes that I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m thankful to have both a supportive military community in the area I live, as well as a supportive team through Amazon.
Q: What do you think is the greatest roadblock for military spouses when they are seeking work?
A: I think one of the largest challenges for military spouses is flexibility. There are a lot of unknowns with the military (deployment schedules, training schedules, relocations, etc) which eliminate the ability for a lot of advanced planning. Is it challenging? Yes. Is it doable? Absolutely!
Q: What is your favorite part of your job as a military spouse working at Amazon?
A: Being a part of an organization that focuses on developing their people and providing new experiences opens up so many doors across the US in different parts of the organization. Additionally, the flexibility of my current role in Virtual CS Operations is a huge benefit as a military spouse. Working from home allows me to take my job with me, regardless of what my husband’s relocation may look like in the future.
Q: Do you have any advice for miliary spouses?
A: My advice to fellow military spouses is to try and slow down and enjoy the little things. The chaotic schedule of deployments, relocations, work, and children can be a challenge but the important thing is to enjoy the present – whatever that moment may be.
