Thousands of people around the United States currently face homelessness, with a total of 21,625 people within the Illinois-Indiana-Kentucky tri-state area alone. During this difficult time, many turn to local nonprofits to not only keep them safe and healthy, but to also help them navigate their way back to a more stable living situation. Because of this need, more than 300 Amazonians in the tri-state area came together to help nonprofits ahead of the holiday season and do what they do best – deliver smiles.
Over the span of two weeks, our associates coordinated and packed more than 50,000 items into thousands of backpacks for local nonprofit partners delivering life-saving and life-changing services in the communities where our associates live and work. These backpacks were filled with winter hats, gloves, wool socks, first aid kits, toiletries, hand and face sanitizing wipes, and healthy snacks, providing resources ahead of winter, one of the busiest times of year for many nonprofit organizations.

Working with several partners including Bethany House Services, Coalition for the Homeless, Emergency Shelter of Northern Kentucky, Horizon House, and local United Way agencies, we distributed a total of 5,600 backpacks to 27 homeless shelters and nonprofits supporting people in need. With these winter essential backpacks, we are helping improve the lives of those transitioning from homelessness.
Thank you to our associates for demonstrating what’s behind the smile while supporting local neighbors working to overcome adversity.
